Easy DIY Project: “Upholstered” Ottoman

Easy DIY Project: “Upholstered” Ottoman

A loyal blog reader (and now friend!) Pam sent me an email recently, showing off an “upholstered ottoman” project she completed after being inspired by my “no-sew pillow covers” feature on the Today Show:

(You can watch the segment here).

I was blown away by Pam’s creativity and ingenuity.  If you can wrap a pillow in fabric, she figured, why not wrap an ottoman too?  Here’s the pretty result:

This was her before, by the way. Huge improvement!

Here was Pam’s process.

Step One – drape fabric over ottoman cube.

Step Two – fold ends under.

I love this little detail – she made sure the ends were wrapped underneath so it looked super polished (I believe she dotted the fabric with fabric glue to hold everything tight, and then she even used a few staples to anchor the fabric to the ottoman, but if you can get that fabric wrapped tightly enough you may not need staples!).

Step Three – Fold the fabric

Just like you’re wrapping a birthday present:

Step Four – Wrap and tuck!

Now how is that for an easy, affordable DIY transformation?  From Pam:  “Total cost to recover 2 stools was approximately $30 for supplies” which included fabric and fabric glue.  (By the way, you can find fabric at places like Fabric.com and Joann Fabrics for really inexpensive (and pretty!) patterns).

Pam, your project is living proof that with a little creativity and a few bucks, we can literally transform our living spaces into something we are proud of.  You inspire me!  Thank you!
