My C Jere Ripoff: The Perfect Wall Decor Solution
Like so many of you, I have vast, empty walls that I have no idea what to do with. Our living room is the worst – it’s such a pretty room with terrific light but oh man that one long wall seems to go on forever. I remember seeing it for the first time and thinking, “what in the world am I going to hang on this wall to make it look ‘complete’??”
Take a look at this beauty!
“Raindrops” sculpture by C Jere
That sculpture, my friends, is a C Jere ripoff by Jonathan Adler, and I couldn’t be happier with the punch of style it brings to our living room.
You may not be familiar with C Jere – I wasn’t until recently! Basically, “C Jere” is a cross between the names of metal artists Curtis Freiler and Jerry Fels. These guys were hot stuff in the 60s – think Mad Men style wall decor.
They fell out of favor for a few decades, but now their stuff is back with a vengeance – a real raindrops sculpture by C Jere that was made in the 60s or 70s will now sell on ebay for somewhere between $5,000 and $9,000.
In a stroke of commercial brilliance, Jonathan Adler struck a deal with C Jere in 2007, and now manufactures some of the artists’ more iconic sculptures. So, while I did pay $1800 for my brass Raindrops sculpture (*gasp!!*), compared to what a REAL one costs it’s a total bargain. And I have to say it is cheaper than buying, say, an expensive painting, with arguably just as much design impact.
Here are some other pics of the iconic brass Raindrops – see how large it is? I love the heft of this piece – it makes such a statement.
Oh it also comes in silver – the surfaces are quite reflective. The silver / chrome doesn’t work in my personal space but I do love it for a super modern space:
Here’s someone doubling up on the Raindrops – what a great idea for a SUPER large wall:
