The Best Thing to Happen to Furniture…Since Paint
So there I was, innocently perusing the latest issue of HGTV magazine, when I spotted this fun and creative dresser:

My eyes almost bugged out of my head – it’s an IKEA hack! Talk about excitement! And not only that – the owner simply bought a graphic laser-cut wood overlay that is compatible with IKEA furniture. In a final act of genius, she painted the overlay a hot pink before nailing it on.
What?! I love it! I die!
I immediately went to myoverlays.com… there is a whole bevy of different overlays to choose from. I don’t mean to be the girl that talks about IKEA incessantly, but how can I not mention these amazing IKEA dresser makeovers?! Here are just a few of my favorites:
You can use the overlays for just about anything, not just dressers. Someone used it on a cornice:
Loving this overlay on an otherwise plain door:
This is a fun BEFORE and AFTER:
Nice, subdued overlays really make a difference:
How adorable is this idea for a staircase? I’m so tempted to do this in my own house:
Between those green stripes and the simple overlay on the cabinets, this bathroom really got a kick in the pants, don’t you think?
An otherwise plain Jane table made interesting with a greek key design:

The real beauty of this idea is that you only need a can of paint and a bottle of Elmer’s glue (or a few nails), and you’re in business. No DIY skill or knowledge necessary. Or time or tons of money, for that matter. Talk about a DIY project after my own heart!
